Here in the Mountains, we take our coffee seriously, with our enticing cafes rivalling big city counterparts in quality and service.

When it comes to exceptional coffee, there are simply no excuses. Australians are obsessive about their morning caffeine hit; and it’s no different here in the Blue Mountains, where locals and visitors alike demand city café quality with our own unique spin on ambience and a focus on fresh, local produce presented with heart.

From Glenbrook to Mount Victoria, every village has its own treasured bolthole where you can pull up a chair, soaking up the Summer sunshine as you linger over conversation and fine food while sipping on black liquid gold.

Here are a few of our favourites:

Hounslow Blackheath

5/23-25 Govetts Leap Rd, Blackheath

T: 1300 002 785; W:  https://hounslow.net.au/

Mon-Frid 7am-3pm, weekends 7.30am-3pm.

Tucked into the arcade on Govetts Leap Rd, Hounslow has elevated the brunch experience, with innovative dishes celebrating local produce. There are brekky standards with a twist: bacon and egg roll

with ironbark-smoked streaky bacon served with pear chutney, Swiss cheese and rocket; or smashed avo with kim chi and lotus root. Lunch offerings include a flame-grilled wagyu burger, hot smoked peppered Atlantic mackerel or porcini risotto, accompanied by an extensive beverage menu including ethically-sourced coffee by Grace & Taylor and non-alcoholic cocktails.

Tempus Up Early

66 Katoomba St, Katoomba

T: (02) 4760 8630  W: tempuskatoomba.com.au

7am to 1.30pm Monday to Friday

The modern Australian restaurant Tempus has created quite a buzz, with critics agreeing it’s one of the best in the Mountains. Its morning café counterpart, Tempus Up Early, is equally enticing with incredible flavours infusing every dish, from its famed hash browns with house-cured salmon, to its Summer French toast offering featuring roast peach and slivered almonds. For a lighter bite, try their borek pastries, served with a side of house-made relish.
