Hear the stories of all the men who built, some of the difficulties they faced, but their rewards when they finally reached Bathurst. In 1814 Governor Macquarie asked William Cox to supervise the building of a road from Emu Plains, over the mountains, following as closely as they could, the route mapped out by George Evans. The colony was running out of space and needed the lush pastures on the other side of the mountains.

Cox selected 30 convicts who looked strong and capable enough for the work. their freedom on completion was to be their reward.

Their walk will finish with a substantial lunch, and then, unlike to original road makers, they will provide a bus to take them back up the hill to where they left the cars.
