CLOSURE EXTENSION ANNOUNCEMENT
*UPDATE: Megalong Road has now reopened, with access via one lane restricted to vehicles less than 15 tonnes. Traffic control teams will remain in-place until the work on the temporary road is completed (expected to be Wednesday afternoon). Council will commence the design of the full road reconstruction following that.
The Blue Mountains has been hard hit by the result deluge of rain, resulting in several major road closures.
Bells Line of Road remains closed between the Darling Causeway and Rainbow Ravine Drive after a major landslip, with engineers deeming the road in danger of collapsing into the gorge below.
Given the damage caused to Jenolan Caves Rd (in both directions) due to extreme weather, Transport for NSW has advised that access into Jenolan Caves will be closed for the foreseeable future. As there is no alternate access to Jenolan, the precinct has been closed up to and including the 5th of April.
Once the extreme rain event has concluded, Transport for NSW will assess the full impact and determine a recovery plan and timings to get both the road and precinct back open.
