Celebrate 150 years of railway history on the Blue Mountains

July 2017 is the anniversary of the 1867 railway line to Wentworth Falls

 

Friday 21st July - Official Steam Train from Sydney Central Station to Wentworth Falls followed by ceremony with a band and cake cutting

Saturday 22nd July -  From Penrith ride the Steam train shuttles to Springwood and/or the "Red Rattler" to Blacktown

Sunday 23rd July - Ride the Steam Train shuttles from Lawson to Katoomba and back.  Enjoy the rail line laying demonstrations and other activities at Lawson

Valley Heights Rail Museum is open on Saturday and Sunday.

 

 

Friday 21st July 2017 – WENTWORTH FALLS

Transport Heritage NSW is coming to Wentworth Falls with the Steam Train.

 
Travel aboard the Steam Train from Central departing 10:00am. The 
train will stop to pick up at Penrith (11:09), Springwood (11:40) and Lawson (12:06) enroute, arriving at Wentworth Falls at 12:17pm.

Note:
• This is a one way train journey to Wentworth Falls. The Steam train will depart
(empty) at 12:50pm.
• Lunch can be purchased from the many local outlets close by in Wentworth Falls.
• Passengers will need to make their own return journey arrangements aboard a
regular train service.
 

COMMUNITY HIGHLIGHTS

  • On arrival, a 30 minute ceremony will be held in Coronation Park (adjacent to the Railway Station).
  • There will be a band, commemorative speech and reading and a Cake Cutting
  • While in Wentworth Falls, grab some lunch at one of our many eateries (for details, download and print the flyer below).
  • You may especially wish to try The Country Club Brasserie, Mountain High Pies, Nineteen23, or The Conservation Hut
  • Browse the specialty shops in the village.
  • Have a picnic at the Wentworth Falls Lake, Wilson Park or Wentworth Falls Picnic Area at the lookout.
  • Or explore the lake and many walking trails close to the village.  Charles Darwin Walk , Princes Rock , and Valley of the Waters are worth the effort after your train journey.
  • Catch the  "Hop-on / Hop-off"  red double decker Explorer Bus further afield with a final Hop-off at a convenient train station.  Departures at  1:45pm and  2:30pm - special Track 150 price $20, tickets from the driver.
  • Take a memorable 3 hour sightseeing tour on the original Reg Ansett Pioneer Clipper, tour to include Wentworth Falls, Echo Point & Cahills Lookout.  Price - $100 per person, limited seats, book your tickets HERE or purchase tickets from the driver if still available.

  • Ceremony & Commemorative Cake Cutting - Grounds of the Lawson Bowling Club
  • Times for the Ceremony and Commemorative Cake Cutting estimated to be in the middle of the day.
  • Track Laying Demonstration by Rhomberg Rail (to be confirmed) - Contest between two track laying gangs demonstrating traditional track laying techniques – Grounds of the Bowling Club.
  • There will be 4 track laying demonstrations throughout the course of the day. Times for each demonstration to be confirmed.

  • A program of events will be available on the day.
  • Valley Heights Locomotive Depot Heritage Museum open to the Public with Steam Train rides operating.
